Indie folk. The wayward son of rock, the black sheep of folk and the flagman of lo-fi. Always in the forefront, blazing trails through uncharted territory, far left from the dense mainstream. Questioning, innovating, constantly one step ahead of the establishment while still rooted in unmistakable tradition. These are drums for indie folk, for music where no given set of rules apply.
Shimmering in blinding neon pastels, the ’80s was an era when technology forced its way to the forefront and got its first permanent foothold in mainstream music culture. It was a time when acoustic and electronic merged to form all-together new sounds, musical expressions and even genres. In all of this, the bass of course played a tremendous part – not least in the shape of the surging use of the synth filling its traditional role. For this MIDI pack, we turned to its sibling for EZkeys and used it as a foundation to create the perfect complement for EZbass. Expect a wealth of ballad-esque basslines that perfectly capture the spirit of the time but that you can doctor for use in any thinkable style or scenario.

With that as a foundation and a strongly voiced anything goes-philosophy, Thomas Hedlund (Phoenix, Cult of Luna) paved his way through the conventions, challenged the traditional drum beat and came out with a fearless collection of grooves. Firmly rooted in the ever-shifting musical landscape of indie music, but balancing on borders close to any genre imaginable. Because that’s the true spirit of indie.

Want a collection of guitar and bass tones, vocal settings or mastering presets tweaked for metal perfection at arm’s reach? It’s there too. You get the point: if you’re tired of juggling effects, tweaking things to bits and having your creative flow getting lost in the process, this is your new go-to source for relief.
The Blues EZX comes with two complete kits; a 1970s Gretsch and a calfskinned Swedish Levin set from the 1940s. On top of that, it features contemporary Paiste and Sabian crashes, vintage Zildjan A and K series cymbals as well as extras such as a suitcase and a set of calfskinned tambourines. All instruments were handpicked and in many cases road-worn by the sampling drummer himself, a blues musician with decades worth of experience behind the kit playing the blues. It was recorded in an empty Swedish theater and later mixed in a high-end studio through vintage and modern outboard gear. The end result is a cross-pollination between new and old; warm and characteristic sounds that cover the whole range, from old school to modern, from dry to ambient. This is the sound of then, now and time to come.
Fueled by acts like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, a new breed of rock burst onto the scene in the late sixties. With a big, thunderous sound, often with the drums as the barreling force in the front of the mix, the classic acts of this era didn’t only strike a chord that would resonate to this day – they shook the ground and started a landslide of heavy music to come.It’s from this legacy that the Big Rock Drums EZX picks up. Helmed by Rival Sons’ drummer Michael Miley and Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Europe, Zac Brown Band), it sets out to capture the raw essence of classic rock drums as we know them. Recorded at Cobb’s own Low Country Sound Studio in Nashville, it presents five essentially different kits that still share one common denominator – they’re the massive, reverberant and roaring type, tailored for big rock songs.
